Children's Dentistry
Your child’s teeth are important. And not just because the tooth fairy likes to trade money for lost baby teeth! They also play a crucial role in helping your child develop self-esteem, not to mention act as placeholders for the teeth they’ll have next as they grow into maturity. It’s for these reasons, alongside the American Dental Association, we recommend children as young as two begin regular children’s dentistry visits. Learning how to brush and floss correctly at a young age is vital to having a healthy mouth later in life.
Baby Steps
We understand how disorienting a first visit can be. We suggest bringing your son or daughter in for one of your own visits first. That way, we can help your little one become acclimated to the sights and sounds of our Laurel office. It’s all about baby steps! The first few children’s dentistry appointments will be developmental checkups and some lessons on healthy brushing and flossing habits. As your child grows, age appropriate hygiene will help keep dental disease at bay.
Extra Protection for Your Child’s Mouth
One way we like to help our littlest patients is with fluoride supplements or dental sealants. Sugar can wreak havoc on back teeth, which are notoriously hard to brush. With sealants, we can provide your child with extra protection against tooth decay. And for stronger enamel, which is vital for warding off cavities, we can use fluoride supplements. Fluoride works by attracting the minerals that lead to strong enamel. And that, of course, results is a stronger, healthier mouth for your child.
Just teaching your child the basics of brushing and flossing aren’t enough. Supervising your child at home and maintaining regular children’s dentistry visits are an essential part of the process. Working together, we can help your child learn habits that will stick with them throughout their life.
